Kidnapped

source:  Richland Shield & Banner:  30 July 1892, Vol. LXXV, No. 10

Woodland Avenue (Mansfield) was in a turmoil of excitement yesterday over the alleged kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy.

George Kiner, residing on that thoroughfare, called on an attorney yesterday and acquainted him with the condition of affairs and consulted regarding proceedings to again obtain possession of the child, which was taken from his house.   Mr. Kiner says that about six years ago his son died, leaving a widow and several children.  The widow immediately packed up her goods and took the children to Defiance, O., where she had relatives.  She placed the children in the Children's Home of that county but several months after communicated with Mr. Kiner, her father-in-law, asking him to take care of the boy, which he has done ever since.

Recently the widow, Mrs. Kiner, remarried and she wanted the boy returned, but the old gentleman would not consent to it.  Yesterday the boy's mother called at the family residence and, while the old folks were busily engaged at something in the yard, the mother induced the child to go with her.  Mr. Kiner understood that the boy and his mother would leave the city this morning for Defiance and he was advised to meet them at the depot, if possible, and take possession of the child.

The old gentleman said to his attorney he intended visiting the early west bound trains this morning and did so for the purpose of forcibly obtaining possession of the child, but the mother had evidently left the city last night, as she was nowhere to be seen.
